I also wrote a more detailed column about this topic: https:\/\/www.simonkuestenmacher.com\/simons-blog\/2020\/4\/16\/trapped-in-the-search-for-meaningful-work Connect with Simon Kuestenmacher on social media: LinkedIn https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/simonkuestenmacher Twitter https:\/\/twitter.com\/simongerman600 Facebook https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SimonGerman600 Instagram https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/simongerman600 To book Simon as a speaker please visit his website for more details: https:\/\/www.simonkuestenmacher.com\/speaking\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL img-responsive\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:640px;margin:5px auto;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>This means you cannot afford to misunderstand the Millennials.<\/p>\n<h2>So let's quickly understand what they obsess about.<\/h2>\n<p>Millennials obsess about the purpose.<\/p>\n<p>And the problem with purpose, with the meaning of life, if you will, for Millennials is that it doesn't come from religion. <div class=\"adplugg-tag\" data-adplugg-zone=\"the_sentiment_campaign_body_\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>They're the most atheistic, most agnostic generation that ever was.<\/p>\n<p>So, the meaning of life doesn't come from there.<\/p>\n<p>The meaning of life also for many Millennials doesn't come from the family just yet, because they're only now, as a group, starting their own families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So that really only leaves work as a source for the meaning of life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, millennials obsess about work.<\/p>\n<p>Work needs to be meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>There are millions of Millennials that sit in cushiony well-paid jobs and they're miserable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-post-fullsize wp-image-149412 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-800x480.jpg\" alt=\"Millennials\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-800x480.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-600x360.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-1153x692.jpg 1153w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-1536x922.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials-1160x696.jpg 1160w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/millennials.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Work simply isn't fulfilling enough for them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can think about this what you want, but this is the reality for millennials.<\/p>\n<p>It feels very, very real to them, and whether you are a millennial, whether you manage millennials, or whether you market to millennials... understand this obsession.<\/p>\n<p>Millennials also fear that they can't provide the same level of physical comfort to their kids that their baby boomer parents were able to provide to them.<\/p>\n<p>Millennials grew up in large homes providing all physical comforts to their kids, so that is hard for millennials to recreate now.<\/p>\n<p>But at the moment Millennials live in the inner suburbs of the capital cities in one or two-bedroom apartments, and once you add a family member, or once you add a Zoom room for working from home to the millennial household, all of a sudden this generation really needs larger homes.<\/p>\n<p>So they need to move into a three- or four-bedroom house.<\/p>\n<p>And now millennials have FOMO \u2014 '<em>fear of missing out<\/em>' on the property sector which is really shaping their thinking an awful lot.<\/p>\n<p>So I do think if you get these basic obsessions and fears of millennials right, you understand an awful lot about how they tick as a group.<\/p>\n<div class=\"adplugg-tag\" data-adplugg-zone=\"the_sentiment_campaign_mobile_\"><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"adplugg-tag\" data-adplugg-zone=\"the_sentiment_campaign_desktop_\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today the 7.6 million Millennials in Australia are the largest demographic force.
