});\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div> -->\r\n\r\n<div class=\"adplugg-tag\" data-adplugg-zone=\"books_of_michael_yardney_body_\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>It meant less time spent with family and less time available for my community.<\/p>\n<p>So when I reviewed my statement,\u00a0I told myself a story.<\/p>\n<p>Those airline tickets and hotel rooms were for the greater good.<\/p>\n<p>But here\u2019s the part I skipped.<\/p>\n<p>Could better planning on my part have meant fewer back-to-back trips?<\/p>\n<p>Could I have spent my time and my money more wisely?<\/p>\n<p>This exercise helped me see that my\u00a0actions and values were out of alignment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"alignright\"><\/div>\n<p>The best part?<\/p>\n<p>The experience wasn\u2019t a negative one, simply a timely reminder that took all of five minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Pull out one of your statements.<\/p>\n<p>You may be pleasantly surprised with the results, but don\u2019t be shocked if the statement reveals some surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Look, I know that life happens and things can change quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes our time and money won\u2019t be spent perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>But there is a reason I often refer to the old saying, \u201cThe chequebook and the calendar never lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><div class=\"notes\"><div class=\"notes-inner\"><span class=\"icon\"><picture><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/themes\/oldpaper\/img\/note.svg\" alt=\"pencil icon\"><\/picture><\/span><p><span class=\"tips-notes\">Note: <\/span> How we spend our lives, be it money or time, says something about us. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It says something about our values.<\/p>\n<p>Time after time, I have seen the consequences of what happens when our spending connects us to unexpected values.<\/p>\n<p>First, we try to shrug it off.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a one-time blip.<\/p>\n<p>If it happens again, we\u2019ll try to pretend that was always our intention.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-113759 size-post-fullsize img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-800x586.jpg\" alt=\"Credit Card\" width=\"800\" height=\"586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-800x586.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-600x440.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-768x563.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-1024x750.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-1160x850.jpg 1160w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card-375x275.jpg 375w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/credit-card.jpg 1374w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But in the end, we\u2019re left with the uncomfortable reality.<\/p>\n<p>The mental image we have of ourselves is disconnected from our real selves.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a hard truth to accept.<\/p>\n<p>We do have another option.
