{"id":60618,"date":"2024-12-16T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-15T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/propertyupdate.com.au\/?p=60618"},"modified":"2024-10-17T09:43:19","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T22:43:19","slug":"stress-can-good-thing-bad-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertyupdate.com.au\/stress-can-good-thing-bad-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"Stress Can Be a Good Thing or a Bad Thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine you\u2019re part of a group of cavemen, walking through the tall grass in the Savanna on the hunt for your next meal.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, a member of your group catches a glimpse of a lion out of the corner of their eye.<\/p>\n<p>The member motions to the other members of the group.<\/p>\n<p>In a split second everyone in the group goes on high alert, intensely focused on the movement of the lion.<\/p>\n<p>As if the entire group were one person, you all cautiously move away from the direction of the lion, never taking your eye off that lion, until everyone is out of harm's way.<\/p>\n<p>Stress is an evolutionary radar system whose purpose is to enable humans to single-mindedly focus on a single threat until the threat no longer poses any danger.<\/p>\n<p>It gives us laser-like focus for a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p>Everything in our environment, other than the threat, fades into the background.<\/p>\n<p>In the modern world, stress makes it possible for us to study for final exams, fight off a mugger and even defeat the Nazis.<\/p>\n<p>Stress allows us to solve pressing problems.<\/p>\n<p>But it comes at a cost.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-172035 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/stress.jpg\" alt=\"Stress\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/stress.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/stress-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/stress-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"toc_link\" id=\"stress-is-a-negative-emotion-that-causes-our-focus-to-become-narrowed\">Stress is a negative emotion that causes our focus to become narrowed.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It limits our ability to see anything but the problem.<\/p>\n<p>We get tunnel vision.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t work in the Savanna anymore.<\/p>\n<p>We work in offices, cubicles, manufacturing facilities and emergency rooms, where stress is all around us.<\/p>\n<p>When that stress sticks around, it perpetually limits our perception and our focus on one thing and one thing only.<\/p>\n<p>It inhibits our ability to be creative.<\/p>\n<p>We need to turn off stress in order to be able to creatively solve problems.<\/p>\n<p>Creativity, insight and Eureka moments require a positive mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Creativity requires a relaxed mind, one open to new ideas and new information.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-post-fullsize wp-image-92716 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-800x535.jpg\" alt=\"Relaxation 1967892 1920\" width=\"800\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-800x535.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-600x402.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920-1160x776.jpg 1160w, https:\/\/cdn.propertyupdate.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/relaxation-1967892_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"toc_link\" id=\"there-are-ways-to-turn-off-stress-and-relax-our-minds-so-that-we-can-maximize-our-full-potential\">There are ways to turn off stress and relax our minds so that we can maximize our full potential:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Laugh<\/strong> \u2013 When you are under stress, tune it out by finding something funny to distract you. Humour shuts down stress and shifts your mind from negative to positive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meditate<\/strong> \u2013 A few minutes of meditation calms the mind and shuts down stress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exercise<\/strong> \u2013 Lift weights, go for a run, do yoga or get on a StairMaster. Exercise decreases stress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read<\/strong> \u2013 Reading something uplifting will shift your mindset from negative to positive and shut stress down.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Watch an Inspiring Movie<\/strong> \u2013 Watching a\u00a0movie that inspires, excites, makes you laugh or that takes you away to another place will turn off stress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to Relaxing Music<\/strong> \u2013 Relaxing music relaxes the mind, turning stress off.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engage in Some Creative Activity<\/strong> \u2013 Paint, write or make something. Engaging in a creative activity puts stress on the bookshelf.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have a Beer<\/strong> \u2013 Moderate consumption of alcohol relaxes the mind. One to two drinks is all you need to put stress in its place. Just don\u2019t overdo it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Socialize<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Hang out with a friend, volunteer at a local charity, or go to a party or gathering. Socializing relaxes the mind and changes your mindset.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Change Your Environment<\/strong> \u2013 Step away from your desk, cubicle or work area and into an environment that puts you in a good mood.
